This position is responsible for producing accurate, detailed estimates that reflect our commitment to quality, durability, and custom solutions. We’re looking for someone who understands millwork inside and out and brings a thoughtful, methodical approach to evaluating drawings, materials, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

· Review architectural drawings, specifications, and site information to prepare detailed estimates for custom millwork and cabinetry.

· Break down scope items clearly and accurately, reflecting true material, labor, hardware, and finish requirements.

· Work closely with project managers and engineering to ensure estimates align with Detroit Woodworking’s production methods and craftsmanship standards.

· Identify value-driven options or alternates where appropriate, without compromising durability or design intent.

· Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing for materials, hardware, and specialty components.

· Develop proposals and bid packages that communicate scope, assumptions, and inclusions clearly and professionally.

· Coordinate pre-bid meetings, site assessments, and follow-up clarification requests.

· Maintain organized estimating files, pricing updates, and historical cost data.

· Support internal teams during project handoff to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to production.

Qualifications

· 3+ years of estimating experience in millwork, cabinetry, architectural woodwork, or a closely related field.

· Strong understanding of millwork materials, hardware, fabrication methods, and finishing processes.

· Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, sections, and details with high accuracy.

· Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to clarify scope and collaborate with designers, contractors, and internal teams.

· Proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets, and project documentation tools.

· Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple bids at once.

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee custom millwork projects from initial kickoff through final installation, ensuring quality, accuracy, and smooth workflow at every step.

· Oversee project closeout activities including punch lists, documentation, and client walkthroughs.

As a Bench Carpenter & Craftsman, you will:

· Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and cut lists to accurately fabricate and assemble millwork and cabinetry.

· Measure, cut, shape, and fit materials using both hand tools and woodworking machinery.

· Execute precise joinery, assembly, and fitting to ensure superior craftsmanship.

· Work with a variety of materials including hardwoods, veneers, MDF, and laminate.

· Inspect and verify accuracy of dimensions and alignment before final assembly or finishing.

· Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area in accordance with Detroit Woodworking’s safety standards.

· Collaborate with team members, leads, and project managers to meet production goals and maintain workflow efficiency.

· Experienced on small to large scale millwork projects from fabrication through final installation

We’re looking for someone who:

· Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in custom woodworking, cabinetry, or architectural millwork fabrication.

· Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, joinery, and shop tools/machinery.

· Ability to read and interpret detailed shop drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

As a Wood Finisher, you will:

· Perform all steps in the finishing process — including sanding, prepping, staining, spraying, and applying dyes, glazes, paints, and catalyzed finishes.

· Progressively develop custom color matching and specialty finish skills.

· Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and cabinetry drawings.

· Prepare and repair wood surfaces by filling cracks, smoothing imperfections, and distressing surfaces when required.

· Mix and apply finishing ingredients to achieve desired tones, sheens, and effects.

· Coordinate timing and workflow as cabinetry pieces move through the finishing department.

· Maintain a clean and organized work environment consistent with Lean Manufacturing principles.
